For me this is the ultimate birthday cake, ever since I was a little girl, and even a festive, over-the-top layered mousse cake \u2013 will not win the battle if I have to choose.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Birthday chocolate cake that is topped with colorful candy is a sweet nostalgia I don\u2019t know anyone who can resist, so every time friends or family members have birthdays \u2013 this is most of the times the cake I\u2019ll make them.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following recipe is a modern twist to the classic birthday chocolate cake, inspired by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/modern-chocolate-nut-pie\/\">modern chocolate nut pie<\/a> I made recently. Instead of using different types of nuts and arranging them neatly on top of the cake slices, I chose to decorate the cake with colored candy and separate the different colors for a particularly neat look.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21395\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21395\" class=\"wp-image-21395\" title=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/chocolate_cake_with_candy4-s.jpg\" alt=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6091382327871787\" data-ad-slot=\"7832461759\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><!--WPRM Recipe 21401--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe\">\n<h2 class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-name\">Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-summary\">\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-equipment\">\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-ingredients\">\n<h4>For the chocolate cake:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>4 large eggs (at room temperature)<\/li>\n<li>200 grams (1 cup) sugar<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>200 grams dark chocolate<\/li>\n<li>150 grams (3\/4 cup) butter<\/li>\n<li>140 grams (1 cup) all-purpose flour or cornstarch<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. baking powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For chocolate ganache:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>150 grams dark chocolate<\/li>\n<li>125 ml. (1\/2 cup) whipping cream<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For decoration:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Colorful chocolate candy<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-instructions\">\n<h4>Chocolate cake:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 180c degrees and grease the pan.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl of an electric stand-mixer with whipping attachment, place eggs, sugar and salt and beat at high speed for 4-5 minutes until you get a swollen, airy and bright batter.<\/li>\n<li>In a separate bowl, place chocolate and butter and melt together in the microwave or over double steam pot until everything melts.<\/li>\n<li>Add the melted chocolate mixture into the beaten eggs mixture and fold gently until almost uniform.<\/li>\n<li>Add flour and baking powder and fold gently but constantly until you get a uniform batter with no lumps of flour.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 35-45 minutes or until the cake is swollen, set, and a skewer inserted in the center comes out with crumbs.<\/li>\n<li>Cool at room temperature.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Chocolate ganache:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Chop the chocolate and put in a bowl.<\/li>\n<li>Add the cream and melt together in the microwave or over double steam pot until everything melts.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the coating over the cake and straighten the top.<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerate the cake for 3-4 hours in the refrigerator for complete stabilization of the ganache.<\/li>\n<li>Cut the cake into 6 large slices (or according to the amount of chocolate candy colors) and decorate each slice with uniform colored candy.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-notes\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Keep the chocolate cake in a closed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">It is highly recommended to serve the cake at room temperature and not cold from the refrigerator.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Nondairy version: In the cake use 120 grams of coconut oil instead of the butter and in the ganache use 125 ml. coconut cream instead of whipping cream.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">You can also decorate the cake with different types of nuts.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-meta\">\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--End WPRM Recipe--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21394\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21394\" class=\"wp-image-21394\" title=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/chocolate_cake_with_candy3-s.jpg\" alt=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21394\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_21396\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21396\" class=\"wp-image-21396\" title=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/chocolate_cake_with_candy6-s.jpg\" alt=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_21397\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21397\" class=\"wp-image-21397\" title=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Webp.net-gifmaker.gif\" alt=\"Colorful Birthday Chocolate Cake\" width=\"800\" height=\"1201\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My favorite birthday chocolate cake is most definitely a chocolate cake with Funfetti or any other colorful candy on top.
