She used to serve it in a beautiful nostalgic china pattern dish, and it was one of my favorite cakes as a child.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">I can still remember the taste of the cake even though she died almost 15 years ago. In the past few years I tried making the cake roll at home for several times by the recipe I remember she used. It&#8217;s an easy recipe and the result is simply delicious.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10172\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10172\" class=\"wp-image-10172\" title=\"Strawberry and Cream Cake Roll\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/grandmas_cream_and_strawberry_jam_roulade-s.jpg\" alt=\"Strawberry and Cream Cake Roll\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10172\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6091382327871787\" data-ad-slot=\"7832461759\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Strawberry and Cream Cake Roll<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">30 cm long roll<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">For the cake roll:<\/span><br \/>\n100 grams white sugar<br \/>\n3 eggs<br \/>\n100 grams flour<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp. baking powder<br \/>\n1 tsp. vanilla extract<br \/>\nZest of 1 lemon<br \/>\nPinch of salt<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><u>For the filling<\/u><u>:<\/u><u><br \/>\n<\/u>1 jar strawberry jam<br \/>\n500 ml. heavy cream<br \/>\n1 tbsp. rum<br \/>\n1 tsp. vanilla extract<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Preparation<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 180c degrees, and line a baking pan with greased baking paper.<\/li>\n<li>In your electric mixer whisk eggs and sugar until it gets thick and light in color.<\/li>\n<li>Fold in the flour, baking powder, vanilla, lemon zest and salt and until you get a smooth mixture.<\/li>\n<li>Spread the mixture over your baking pan and even it out using a palate knife.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for about 6-8 minutes or until golden and springy to touch.<\/li>\n<li>Cool the roulade completely before filling it.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the filling: Beat heavy cream, vanilla and rum until firm.<\/li>\n<li>Fill and roll: Spread a thin layer of strawberry jam on the roulade. On top spread the whipped cream and even it using a palate knife. Roll up the roulade tightly, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Notes: <\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can add fresh strawberry cubes to the filling before rolling.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Keep the cake roll in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can use any jam you like.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most intense memories I have from my beloved grandmother is the cake roll with whipped cream and strawberry jam she used to make every Friday evening when we came for a visit.
