(2 tbsp.) vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>70 grams (1\/3 cup) sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 large eggs<\/li>\n<li>200 ml. (1 cups) sour cream<\/li>\n<li>50 ml. (3 tbsp.) milk<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp. vanilla extract<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For chocolate and cherry filling:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>350 grams chocolate spread (I used Nutella)<\/li>\n<li>150-200 grams pitted fresh cherries<\/li>\n<li>50-70 grams chocolate chips<\/li>\n<li>Beaten egg for brushing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For the syrup:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>80 grams (1\/3 cup + 1 tbsp.) sugar<\/li>\n<li>80 ml. (1\/3 cup) water<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp. cherry liqueur<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li>In a bowl of a mixer with a dough-hook put flour, yeast, butter, oil, sugar, eggs, sour cream, milk, salt and vanilla and knead at low speed for 10-12 minutes until the dough is uniform and slightly sticky.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until doubled the volume (this should take about an hour at room temperature).<\/li>\n<li>Divide the dough into 2 parts.<\/li>\n<li>On a floured work surface, roll each part of the dough into a rectangle about 3-4 mm thick.<\/li>\n<li>Spread half of the chocolate spread and sprinkle with half of the cherries and chocolate chips evenly.<\/li>\n<li>Roll the dough tightly, forming a cylinder shape, and cut across the center lengthwise forming 2 strands. Braid the two strands and place in a lightly greased mold.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat with the second part of the dough and the remaining filling.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the cakes and let rise until almost doubled in volume.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat oven 175c degrees.<\/li>\n<li>Brush the risen cakes with egg and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden and set.<\/li>\n<li>Syrup: in a small saucepan heat sugar and water and cook for about 2-3 minutes after boiling until the sugar has dissolved.<\/li>\n<li>Remove from the stove and add the cherry liqueur.<\/li>\n<li>Brush the cakes with syrup and serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-notes\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">You can use any kind of berry you want instead of cherries.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">The cakes are best on the day of preparation.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">You can freeze the cakes, tightly wrapped for 2-3 weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-meta\">\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--End WPRM Recipe--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7239\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7239\" class=\"wp-image-7239\" title=\"Chocolate and Cherry Babka\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lilcookie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/\u05d2\u05dc\u05d2\u05d5\u05dc2-Large.png\" alt=\"Chocolate and Cherry Babka\" width=\"800\" height=\"536\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Raheli Krut<\/p><\/div>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This chocolate and cherry babka is perfect for the summer!
