She&#8217;s the one who inspired me most into baking, and I thank her each and every day when I think of her.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the most popular cakes she used to make was this simple (yet really good!) chocolate cake. This grandma&#8217;s chocolate cake is super high and fluffy, and has the most delicious chocolate frosting on top. Homey, made with love and so good!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13344\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13344\" class=\"wp-image-13344\" src=\"http:\/\/oogio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/grandmas_chocolate_cake2-s-1.jpg\" alt=\"grandmas_chocolate_cake2-s\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13344\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6091382327871787\" data-ad-slot=\"7832461759\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><!--WPRM Recipe 20663--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe\">\n<h2 class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-name\">Grandma&#8217;s Chocolate Cake<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-summary\">\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-equipment\">\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-ingredients\">\n<h4>For the cake:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>5 large eggs at room temperature<\/li>\n<li>Pinch of salt<\/li>\n<li>200 grams (1 cup) sugar<\/li>\n<li>100 grams (1\/2 cup) butter<\/li>\n<li>50 grams dark chocolate<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>140 grams (1 cup) all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp. baking powder<\/li>\n<li>30 grams (3 tbsp.) cocoa powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>For the chocolate frosting:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>100 grams dark chocolate<\/li>\n<li>100 grams (1\/2 cup) butter<\/li>\n<li>20 grams (2 tbsp.) cocoa powder<\/li>\n<li>20 grams (2 tbsp.) sugar<\/li>\n<li>30 ml. (2 tbsp.) milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp. vanilla extract<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 170 degrees and grease the pan.<\/li>\n<li>In a mixer bowl with whipping attachment, whip egg whites and salt on high speed until white foam begins to form.<\/li>\n<li>Continue beating and add the sugar gradually until you get a fluffy, airy and bright meringue.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce the mixer speed and gradually add in egg yolks while stirring slowly, until it is assimilated into the mixture.<\/li>\n<li>In a separate bowl place butter and chocolate and melt in the microwave or over double boiler until everything is melted and mixture is smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Add the chocolate mixture into the whipped eggs while mixing slowly, until uniform.<\/li>\n<li>Sift in flour, baking powder and cocoa and fold gently until mixture is smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the mixture into the pan and level the top.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the cake is set and a skewer inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.<\/li>\n<li>Cool at room temperature before frosting.<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate frosting: chop the chocolate and place in a small saucepan.<\/li>\n<li>Add butter, cocoa powder, sugar, milk and vanilla and cook over medium-low heat until everything is melted and mixture is smooth and shiny.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the frosting over the cake and let it drip a little on the sides.<\/li>\n<li>Serve the cake warm or at room temperature.<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-notes\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">You can use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate but the cake would be sweeter.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Keep the cake in a closed container at room temperature up to 3-4 days.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">The cake is at its best on the day of preparation.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-fallback-recipe-meta\">\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--End WPRM Recipe--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13346\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13346\" class=\"wp-image-13346\" src=\"http:\/\/oogio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/grandmas_chocolate_cake-s-1.jpg\" alt=\"grandmas_chocolate_cake-s\" width=\"800\" height=\"1093\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_13345\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13345\" class=\"wp-image-13345\" src=\"http:\/\/oogio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/grandmas_chocolate_cake3-s-1.jpg\" alt=\"grandmas_chocolate_cake3-s\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Natalie Levin<\/p><\/div>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I was a little girl I used to bake quite a lot with my grandmother.
